Description:
The Carroll County Times, a 27,000-circulation daily newspaper in Westminster, Md., is seeking a reporter to cover Carroll County government. The successful candidate will possess excellent writing skills and experience in beat coverage. The candidate should thrive in a team-based environment and be willing to assist other beat reporters when necessary. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent related journalism experience is required.
As a member of the reporting team, the county government reporter will be responsible for: covering all aspects of Carroll County government to provide readers thorough, complete, accurate and fair coverage; contributing as an active member of the reporting team working a five-day, 40-hour week with some night and weekend shifts required, including at least one night per week covering the police beat and spot news; placing the highest emphasis on accuracy; backing up other beat writers at the request of the city editor; developing and writing enterprise stories; as well as writing other stories as assigned by the city editor.
The county government reporter is also responsible for contributing online content to the Times’ Web site, carrollcountytimes.com and its video site, carrollcounty.tv. This includes news updates for the web, a blog, and shooting and producing online video.
The county government reporter reports to the City Editor.
